I make another attempt at blogging

Man, talk about a boring keynote. I was reading a liveblog of the keynote this morning with a side benefit of the site I was reading it at was doing a bingo game where they had the rumors on a bingo card and the first person to get a bingo and email which ones along with the timestamp they would order a pizza for over the internet. so it was a possible win-win situation.
The worst Apple keynote I’ve ever seen. not because Jobs wasn’t doing it though. I was reading a liveblog and except for the fact that the guy doing the keynote was somewhat overweight and not the slim guy that Jobs is, it seemed about the same. The problem was that most of what makes apple keynotes and other such events exciting is the unveiling of new products. This year they released an updated version of iLife, iWork, and came out with a 17″ MacBook Pro. that’s about it. none of it was worth putting into a keynote. Maybe they were trying to prove that participating in macworld or whatever it’s called isn’t neccesary anymore. I don’t know, but of course iLife and iWork are going to get updated, they have the year in the title now, there should be a new one every year. And the MBP 17″, they already said that they would be coming out with one. That’s no news except that the battery is built-in.
I give the keynote two thumbs down.
Rumor is that they’re going to do a lot of the hardware stuff in February, but… that was still definitely weak.

I would grow another arm just so I could give the keynote 3 thumbs down. And did you know that they are supposed to be releasing a public beta of Windows 7 today? I think I might make a small partition to check it out. I’ve already read reports that Windows 7 (which is similar to Vista) has taken most of the bad things out that Vista had and repolished it. I don’t know, but it’s looking like a solid new OS.

  2. Well, I think you’re right about one thing: this keynote demonstrates why they’re pulling out of Macworld. Not because it’s not necessary, but because it forces them to make product announcements when they might not be ready to – creating a weak keynote and tumbling stock value.

Although cloud iWork apps seems like a cool idea, and free with the purchase of iWork is smart. But free for all would’ve been even smarter.
